Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to probe nostalgia and its relationship to life satisfaction among Syrian refugees in Jordan, and whether there are statistically significant differences based on gender, age, and place of residence.

Methods: The study adopts the correlational descriptive approach. The researchers apply the scales of nostalgia and life satisfaction to a sample of (387) refugees selected based on availability.

Results: The results indicate a high level of nostalgia in all aspects and in overall scores. Nostalgia for people ranked highest, followed by nostalgia for places, while nostalgia for objects ranked lowest. The results also show low levels of life satisfaction among the sample. There are statistically significant differences in nostalgia based on gender, age and place of residence, with higher scores among males, individuals above the age of 45, and individuals living inside the refugee camp. However, there are no statistically significant differences in life satisfaction levels based on gender or age, while there are differences based on place of residence, with higher scores among individuals living outside the refugee camp. Additionally, the results show a statistically relevant negative correlation between nostalgia and life satisfaction among Syrian refugees in Jordan.

Conclusion: The results emphasize the importance of providing psychosocial support to help Syrian refugees reduce nostalgia levels and improve life satisfaction.
