The Jordan News Agency’s (Petra) Coverage of Palestine, Jerusalem, Iraq and Syria: an Analytical Study

Abstract

Objectives: The research aims to identify the Jordanian stand on issues and events in Jerusalem, Palestine, Iraq and Syria, by analyzing the news coverage published in Petra; It also aims to identify the type of this coverage and its relationship with the Jordanian stand which can be concluded through such coverage whether it came directly in the news or through any content of the case, which the Agency as the government news agency focused on.

Methods: The research used the analytical method and the Petra News Content analysis questionnaire for a year. The questionnaire contained 6 categories that were analyzed according to the "subject unit" of the research topic.

Results: The agency focused on publishing the content of "Rejection of the Israeli attacks on Jerusalem", which it published with a rate of 39.33%. It also focused on covering the whole of Palestine by announcing the Israeli attacks and violations against the Palestinians, with a percentage of (30.36%).

Conclusions: Regrading Iraq, its coverage focused on the suffering of the Iraqi State in terms of terrorism operations, and illegal behaviors practiced by internal and external forces by 42.85% of its content. While in the Syrian case, Petra focused in its content on the “Syrian Territorial Unity” by 28.67%.
