Abstract

Objectives: The study aimed to explore the uses of AI applications by journalism students at the Faculty of Media, Yarmouk University, to enhance journalistic skills and the gratifications obtained from them.

Methods: The study adopted a survey research methodology using a questionnaire applied to a stratified random sample of 115 journalism students.

Results: The study found that journalism students use AI applications extensively to improve their journalistic skills. Their primary motivation is achieving efficiency in preparing journalistic projects. The gratifications obtained were high, especially regarding time and effort savings, as well as enhancing writing and editing skills. However, students faced challenges including high costs, lack of interaction with others, and insufficient academic support and encouragement from professors and peers.

Conclusions: The study recommended providing discounted subscriptions or free alternatives for AI applications to meet students' needs. It emphasized enhancing interaction among students through workshops and interactive platforms for knowledge exchange in journalism. Furthermore, it called for integrating AI into curricula as a supportive tool to develop traditional journalistic skills and offering necessary training to enable effective use. Additionally, faculty members should motivate students to utilize AI applications in educational activities.
