Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to identify the violence practiced on social workers by clients. It aimed to reach the forms of violence practiced against them, and the most important reasons that motivate clients to practice violence against social workers. It also sought to identify the impact of this phenomenon on social workers and the profession of social work as a whole.

Methods: The qualitative approach was adopted to complete the study's data collection by interviewing 20 social workers of both sexes individually, who were selected intentionally using the snowball technique.

Results: The results of the study showed that social workers are exposed to many forms of violence from clients, and that verbal violence is the most common, and social workers have expressed their exposure to a range of psychological and social damages as a result of this behavior. As for the profession, despite all the negative effects of violent behavior on social workers, it did not significantly affect their motivation for the profession.

Conclusions: The study recommended a set of proposals to reduce aggressive behavior towards social workers. The most prominent ideas centered on the necessity of issuing policies and legislation to ensure the protection of social workers in the work environment.
