Abstract

Objectives: The study aimed to demonstrate the importance of the role that traditional folk embroidery can play in the development and prosperity of the Palestinian furniture industry.

Methods: The study relied on the descriptive approach, which is to explain the causes of the weak spread of Palestinian furniture, and reviewed the most important variables controlling them for the purpose of studying the relationship between them. Further, the study employed the analytical approach to dismantle the problem of the study and research its details precisely in terms of raw materials, primary materials, and the most important techniques used in this industry.

Results: The study concluded that the Palestinian furniture industry has a real opportunity to flourish and expand while preserving its cultural heritage. This can be achieved by focusing on leadership and creativity in what is designed today, relying on popular embroidery with its expressive and aesthetic lines as a main source of inspiration by focusing on optimal exploitation of technology and materials available locally while avoiding competition currently.

Conclusions: Awareness of the importance of the role that the local designer can play by adapting Palestinian embroidery to serve the furniture manufacturing sector, in addition to studying the strengths and weaknesses of this sector, is the first key towards preserving cultural gains and achieving economic ones from the national product.
