Spatial Analysis of Drug Crimes in the Governorate of Anbar

Objectives: Based on the recent spread of drug crimes in Anbar Governorate, the research topic was chosen to determine the reasons and the factors that led to the province's recent entry into the map of drug crimes, as a region situated between supply and demand areas.
Methods: The descriptive and statistical approach was adopted in analyzing data related to the research problem, which was obtained by official authorities and security centers in order to identify the level of crime, its geographical distribution and the demographic characteristics of offenders.
Results: Through this, the research came out with a number of results, the most important of which is the number of registered drug crimes for the past three years (2020-2021-2022) with (1,288 crimes) distributed among eleven districts, where the distribution of crimes varied spatially, the Rutba district leads in the number of crimes registered with (243) at a rate of 18.8% of the total crimes in the province.
Conclusions: The geographical orientation is the basic pillar of this study because it is not possible to isolate geography from societal issues, so this study came as a geographical treatment of the reality of drug crimes in Anbar Governorate, which has recently witnessed a noticeable spread of this type of crime, which requires research, analysis, and the development of treatments.
