Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the role of Augmented Reality (AR) technology in enriching the news content of television programs on the Al Arabiya satellite channel by examining its usage, intended objectives, journalistic values, and persuasive methods employed.

Methods: A descriptive analytical study was conducted using a content analysis tool to examine segments presented through AR technology in the program "Al Sa'a 60," aired on Al Arabiya News Channel, during the period from 1/1/2022 to 31/12/2022.

Results: The results showed that the topics addressed by the segments utilizing augmented reality technology were primarily cultural, aligning with the main objective sought by the program creators—education. In terms of journalistic values, sensation was emphasized over objectivity, timeliness, and public interest. Regarding the types of persuasive methods used, attention-grabbing techniques were predominant, followed by direct clarification and emotional appeal.

Conclusions: The study concluded that the use of augmented reality technology in the "Al Sa'a 60" program remains focused on creating content characterized by sensation and novelty, limiting its role in enhancing media content to a certain extent.
