Objective: This study aims to explore the prose creativity of Ahmed Shawqi, who is predominantly recognized as a poet rather than a prose writer. The study seeks to identify the elements of originality and imitation within his prose works, while also examining the primary artistic features of his prose talent through his various subjects.
Methods: A descriptive-analytical approach was employed, focusing on the stylistic analysis of selected prose texts. The study highlights Shawqi's use of literary techniques, including the incorporation of heritage, rhetorical embellishment, and repetition. It also discusses the stylistic pitfalls that Shawqi encountered, supported by relevant examples and evidence.
Results: The study concludes that "Aswaq al-Dhahab" was more than just a collection of essays; it was a fusion of reflections and essays in which Shawqi articulated his emotions and provided impressionistic critiques of various societal behaviors and phenomena. The research also uncovered the wide range of topics addressed in his work, including historical, contemplative, descriptive, religious, and literary themes, all of which are imbued with Shawqi’s poetic influence through both detailed and overarching imagery.
Conclusion: It is fair to assert that "Aswaq al-Dhahab" served as a platform for Shawqi to present a blend of reflections, maxims, and critiques. He utilized diverse methods, such as unstructured prose, rhymed prose, and pure reflections and maxims. The study also underscored Shawqi's proficiency in literary essays, reflections, societal critique, and adeptness in opposition. It recommends further scholarly exploration of the significant aspects of Shawqi's literary endeavors.
