Abstract

Objectives: The study aims to identify Israeli psychological warfare strategies employed on the ‘Israel Speaks Arabic’ page.

Methods: The study uses the descriptive survey method.

Results: The study finds that the ‘Israel Speaks Arabic’ page adopts seven media frames in different proportions: the conflict frame, the humanitarian interests frame, the economic frame, the general frame, the issue-specific frame, the strategy frame, and the ethical principles frame. It also shows that the ‘Israel Speaks Arabic’ page on Facebook presents the following four communication strategies to different degrees: the media strategy, the persuasion strategy, the dialogue strategy, and the consensus-building strategy.

Conclusions: The adopted strategies aim to demoralize the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and instill a feeling of helplessness and surrender among them. Strategies include spreading misleading news and fabricated propaganda in order to distort the image of the resistance, exploiting human suffering to portray Israel as the victim, and highlighting internal divisions among Palestinian factions with the aim of creating doubt and discord between the population and their leadership. The strategies also aim at weakening will and enthusiasm for resistance, and creating a state of frustration and surrender.
