Abstract

Objectives: This research falls within the context of discussing the Arabic language and crises, focusing on the representations of crises in Arabic poetry with its various forms and images. It sheds light on a selected example that demonstrates the impact of the Zanj Rebellion on Abbasid poetry, as a crisis experienced by poets during the second Abbasid era.

Methods: The research followed an inductive approach in tracking the political, social, and psychological dimensions in the poem, studying its artistic structure, and linking these aspects to the crisis and its effects.

Results: The research studied the elegy of Abi Nadhrah al-Sadusi, which he composed in mourning the city of Basra after it was devastated by the Zanj. It revealed the main dimensions upon which the poem was based, including political, social, and psychological aspects. It then showed how the poet constructed his poem artistically by analyzing the poem's introduction, conclusion, and unity, as well as observing certain artistic formations represented in the poetic lexicon, imagery, and the poem's internal and external rhythm.

Conclusion: The research concluded that Abi Nadhrah al-Sadusi's elegy contributed to revealing the aftermath of the crisis represented by the Zanj Rebellion at the time. This was demonstrated through the various dimensions and artistic structure of the poem, alongside the artistic formations employed by the poet.
