Objectives: The research explores the impact of food and drink gatherings on social life during the early Abbasid period (132-247 AH / 750-862 CE). These gatherings, a distinct feature of Islamic civilization, evolved over time and influenced Islamic society, particularly with the advancements in various cultural fields.
Method: The study adopts a descriptive and analytical approach. It identifies and describes the research problem, presents hypotheses, and provides evidence supporting those hypotheses.
Results: The research reveals that food and drink gatherings in the early Abbasid period were so widespread that specific rules and practices were established for them. Food and drink were served by cupbearers to guests, and these gatherings played a significant role in the flourishing of poetry and music, often held in the homes of caliphs, ministers, and princes.
Conclusions: The study examines the influence of food and drink gatherings on social life during the early Abbasid period and their impact on Islamic society. It also highlights their role in cultural integration among the diverse cultures within the Islamic state during the Abbasid era.
