Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to examine Ibn Asfour’s morphological views, compare them with those of other scholars, identify his unique perspectives, and determine which opinions he favored, along with the reasoning and interpretations he used to justify his preferences.

Method: The study employs a descriptive-analytical method, tracing the views of morphologists on the structures of basic and augmented nouns as presented by Ibn Asfour in his book Al-Mumt'a fi Al-Tasreef. It also explores his reasoning for structures that deviate from the norm.

Results: Ibn Asfour focused on methods of inference to distinguish between structures, identifying original and derivative forms based on phonetics and semantics. He emphasized structures well-established in Arabic usage while excluding those that were not.

Conclusion: In Al-Mumt'a fi Al-Tasreef, Ibn Asfour stands out for his unique approach to reasoning, systematically addressing morphological issues and discussing various opinions analytically, concluding with his own reasoned stance, either supporting or opposing others' views.
