Abstract

Objectives: This research focuses on the narrative structure in the poetry of Sultan Al-Owais. It concentrates on studying the structural and technical components that underpin the poet’s works. The study highlights selected examples to illustrate narrative elements and their prominence in Al-Owais’s poetry, characterizing him as a traditional poet belonging to the 20th-century literary scene in the United Arab Emirates.

Methods: The research adopts a textual approach to trace the structural and technical components in Sultan Al-Owais’s poetry, analyzing their meanings and impact on his poetic expression.

Results: The study examines the narrative structure in the poetry of Emirati poet Sultan Al-Owais, uncovering the primary structural elements present in his works, such as introductions, events, characters, and settings. It also identifies key narrative techniques employed by Al-Owais, including flashback, foreshadowing, monologue, and dialogue, and evaluates their influence on his poetry. These elements reflect his poetic experience, which revolves around themes of love, homeland, and the sea.

Conclusion: The research concludes that Sultan Al-Owais’s poetry incorporates narrative elements that reveal his poetic experience and articulate his intended themes. This is evident through the structural components and narrative techniques he employed, showcasing the depth and purpose of his poetic endeavors.
