الأهداف: يهدف هذا البحث التعرف إلى حياة جلال الدين السيوطي وثقافته ومكانته العلمية، وشيوخه وأهمية أعماله، والنقد التاريخي لديه، وإظهار وجهة نظره وفكرته حول النقد التاريخي من خلال تمحيص النصوص ورواتها ومؤلفيها، فيما من شأنه إضاءة هذا الجانب عند السيوطي مؤرخاً وبيان مساهمته فيه . وتوضيح الأهمية التي يمتاز بها السيوطي بين المؤرخين المسلمين .
المنهجية : استندت الدراسة على المنهج التاريخي التحليلي القائم على جمع المعلومات من مصادرها الأساسية ومقارنتها وتحليلها للوصول إلى الاستنتاج .
النتائج: بيّنت نتائج الدراسة أنّ جلال الدين السيوطي نشأ في بيئة وعصر أسهما في تكوينه العلمي والثقافي، كما أنه اجتهد على نفسه في تحصيل المعرفة من منابعها الأساسية . كما أوضحت الدراسة عناصر المنهج النقدي عند السيوطي والمتمثل في : إسناد المعلومات إلى مصادرها الأساسية، وكشف زيف الكذابين وسراق النصوص، وعدم خلط الخرافات والأساطير بالوقائع التاريخية، والتأكد من صحة النصوص التاريخية، وعلى المؤرخ البعد عن الهوى والإحاطة بالمصادر، وأن يكون واسع الاطلاع، والكتابة في موضوعات جديدة .
الخلاصة : توجه الدراسة إلى ضرورة دراسة المؤرخين الأوائل والمتأخرين لمعرفة ميولهم وأهوائهم وصدقهم، ومدى دقة رواياتهم في الكتابة التاريخية .
