Abstract

Objectives: The study aimed to highlight the rights and duties guaranteed to Iraqi women under the 2005 Iraqi Constitution and how they are practiced. Additionally, it sought to examine the presence of women in various decision-making positions and identify the gender gaps in society that hinder women’s participation in political life.

Method: The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach to explore and analyze key indicators for enhancing the political awareness of Iraqi women in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. It also adopted a legal approach to clarify the main constitutional and legal texts related to women’s political rights, as provided by Iraq's valid constitutions and electoral laws.

Results: The study concluded that enhancing Iraqi women’s political awareness is a crucial element in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The literature showed a close and interrelated relationship between the level of political awareness among Iraqi women and their active participation in political life, which contributes to strengthening their ability to positively influence public policy-making and support sustainable development.

Conclusion: Strengthening the foundations of political awareness among Iraqi women contributes to creating a sustainable change in the lives of Iraqi women. Women’s effective participation in the political process enhances society's ability to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring balanced and sustainable growth that leads to prosperity for all.
