Abstract

Objectives: This study examines the phenomenon of using the term Takheel "Descriptive Imagery" in interpreting the Holy Quran. It explores the connotations of this term and explains the reasons leading to its use by some interpreters.

Methods: In this study, the following inductive, critical, and comparative scientific methodologies were adopted. This was carried out by examining the Quranic verses from the main explications (Tafaseer) that employed the term "imagination" in interpreting the Holy Quran. We critiqued those verses considered imaginative, and compared the views of those who support and reject the idea of imagination in the Holy Quran.

Results: The study concluded that the connotations of the term "imagination" vary among philosophy, literature, and rhetoric scholars. The study supports the opposing view of using this term in interpreting the Holy Quran, providing reasons and evidence for this viewpoint.

Conclusions: attempting to understand the Holy Quran as a book of guidance requires avoiding the application of literary and philosophical theories in the realm of the Quran. Such theories may conflict with the divine and holy nature of the Holy Quran.
