Abstract

Objectives: This study provides an evaluation of field training in the Physical Education program at Qatar University from a student's perspective.

Methods: The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach, utilizing survey data as the primary tool for investigation. A sample of 165 male and female students from the Physical Education Department at Qatar University was selected through systematic random sampling from a total study population of 265 students, spanning the graduating years 2021 to 2025. Additionally, a random sample of 20 male and female students was chosen for an open interview.

Result: The results indicated a significant impact of field training on students' skills and knowledge, with the educational supervisor's role being the most important, followed by cooperating schools and the training program's effectiveness. Engagement levels varied by graduation year: 2023 students were more engaged than those from 2021 and 2022, 2024 students surpassed all earlier years, and 2025 students had higher engagement than all previous years.

Conclusion: The results indicate a marked improvement in student responses to field training programs in 2024 and 2025 compared to the earlier graduation years (2021, 2022, and 2023). One of the most significant challenges facing field training students at Qatar University is the large number and repetition of tasks. The study recommended enhancing students' cognitive and professional competencies during their training period and assigning tasks that align with their abilities and potential, as determined by the field training unit.
