Objectives: This study falls within the realm of linguistic studies that follow the Theory of Levels, in addition to its focus on stylistic aspects. The poem of Al-Samma Al-Qushayri exhibits beautiful meanings, where semantic, formal, structural, and textual elements intertwine, making it a suitable subject for semantic, rhetorical, and artistic studies. The study focuses on Al-Samma Al-Qushayri’s poem: “Tamatta’ Min Shamīmi ‘Arāri Najd” (Enjoy the Scent of Najd’s Arar), which has received significant attention from admirers of romantic poetry but has not been examined through textual analysis that explores its different linguistic levels.
Methods: This research analyzes the poem from a linguistic perspective using the Theory of Levels for classification and applies stylistic analysis through the descriptive-analytical method.
Results: From a semantic perspective, the poem represents a journey of no return, in which the poet mourns a forced separation from his homeland, Najd. The poem possesses diverse phonetic components, with a notable presence of sibilant sounds, which serve as an indication of the poet’s distress. These sibilant sounds play a significant role in expressing his emotional suffocation and function as a means of psychological relief.
Conclusions: The study concludes that the poem's distinct phonetic elements shape its expression of a one-way journey (despair). The frequent occurrence of sibilant sounds contributes to easing the poet's emotional burden. Additionally, the poem is characterized by a remarkable dominance of nouns over verbs, reflecting its overarching theme of attachment to place, people, and the surrounding environment.
