Objectives: The study aimed to identify the role of social media networks in raising awareness among Yarmouk University students about the unemployment crisis.
Methods: The study adopted the media audience survey methodology and utilized a questionnaire to collect data from the sample. A simple random sample of (350) students from various faculties and academic levels at Yarmouk University was selected.
Results: The results showed that the majority of Yarmouk University students heavily relied on social media networks for awareness about the unemployment crisis, with a rate of 61.4%. Facebook and Instagram were identified as the most frequently used platforms for this purpose, with usage rates of 80.9% and 61.7%, respectively, while networks such as YouTube, LinkedIn, and WhatsApp played a lesser role. The study also revealed that students’ motivations for using social media networks are primarily driven by their desire to follow news and increase their awareness of the causes and solutions to the unemployment crisis.
Conclusion: The study contributes to expanding students’ understanding of the impacts of unemployment on individuals and society, thereby enhancing their awareness of economic and social issues.
