Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to analyze the value system embedded in Arabic children's songs on YouTube, in order to determine the nature, type, and orientation of these values. The research investigates the principles being instilled in children's behavior, cognitive frameworks, and emotional development through lyrics, melodies, and audiovisual effects.

Method: The study adopts a descriptive analytical approach, employing content analysis as its principal tool to examine the content of 30 children’s songs broadcast on the “Toyor Al Janah” and “Karameesh” YouTube channels—two prominent platforms in the domain of Arabic children's media.

Findings: The results reveal that the value of mischief ranks highest within the value system, constituting 13.4% of the sample. This is followed by the values of parental love and politeness, each accounting for 10%. In terms of value typology, moral values occupy the foremost position. However, the analysis also indicates that only 3.35% of the songs promote positive values, whereas a striking 46.7% convey negative values.

Conclusion: The study underscores the critical importance of embedding constructive values in the production, dissemination, and thematic structuring of children's songs, especially considering their wide reach and frequent recurrence in shaping children's cultural, educational, and ethical backgrounds. Nonetheless, the findings highlight a significant shortfall in the sampled songs, specifically the disproportionate representation of negative values, which necessitates urgent redress. Additionally, the presence of positive values—though limited—signals a need for amplification and strategic reinforcement. To fulfill their dual function of entertainment and guidance, Arabic children's channels must adopt a more deliberate and value-conscious content strategy.
