Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to identify the familial factors leading to drug abuse from the perspective of addicts in rehabilitation centers, to determine the patterns of family acceptance of the addict from their point of view, and to explore the role the family plays during the treatment period.

Methods: The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach to analyze data collected through a comprehensive social survey of all drug addicts (60 individuals) undergoing treatment in rehabilitation centers.

Results: The results indicated that the most influential familial factor in drug abuse is weak communication among family members. The findings also pointed to a relatively positive attitude among some families, as reflected in their commitment to providing emotional and psychological support to the addict during treatment, as well as showing respect for them despite their presence in a rehabilitation center. Additionally, the results revealed that the family plays a pivotal role in supporting the addict’s decision to join a treatment center and in meeting their personal needs during their stay. However, the study also showed a noticeable lack of family participation in awareness and counseling sessions offered by the treatment center.

Conclusions: The family plays a crucial role in supporting the addict during recovery by providing adequate support and showing respect and appreciation, even while the addict is in the treatment center. The most significant role of the family lies in assisting the addict in entering the rehabilitation center and fulfilling their personal needs.
