Objective: One of the daunting challenges confronting Nigeria as a nation is terrorism by Boko Haram and the corruption perpetrated in fighting this menace by the military. Therefore, the paper investigated how corruption affected the fight against terrorism in Nigeria.
Method: The study adopted survey research where mixed method was used to gather data from the respondents. Data was gathered from the five Army Divisions in Nigeria. Ordinal Regression Analysis was used to analyze the data.
Result: It revealed that funds meant for the purchase of arms were mismanaged by the security chiefs leading to poor welfare of the soldiers. It further shows that embezzlement of funds meant to take care of the military personnel weakened the morals of the personnel to fight but does not affect the use of fire arm by the insurgency. The study found out that bribery in the military causes unexpected explosion by the Boko Haram insurgents in Nigeria.
Conclusion: It recommended that socio-economic factors such as poverty, religious extremism, governance deficit, among others, should be combated by the government through economic empowerment programmes, conscious de-radicalization process and institutionalization of structures of good governance at all levels of government.
