Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the underlying causes that led to the collapse of the political regime in Syria in 2024 and to assess the anticipated repercussions of this collapse on the regional power balance in the Middle East.

Methods: The research adopts the regional systems analysis approach alongside a descriptive-analytical methodology. These frameworks are utilized to elucidate the expected impacts of the Syrian regime's downfall on the equilibrium of power in the Middle Eastern region.

Results: The collapse of the Assad regime in Syria is expected to serve as a pivotal moment in the regional power dynamics. Key regional actors, including Iran, Turkey, Russia, and the United States, will likely adjust their strategies and intensify their influence in Syria. Such shifts will lead to significant transformations in regional relations, as each of these nations holds strategic interests in Syria, which will drive the reconfiguration of future alliances. These developments will, in turn, influence the political trajectory and stability of the Syrian state.

Conclusions: In the aftermath of the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, Arab countries should play a pivotal role in supporting efforts to rebuild the Syrian state, both politically and economically, to foster stability. Furthermore, it is crucial for Syria’s national vision to focus on addressing the challenges posed by internal divisions and political violence, while striving for a unified approach to the nation's reconstruction and future governance.
