Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to identify  the attitudes  of Omani journalists towards the use of artificial intelligence applications in the news sections of Omani press institutions, and to identify their attitudes towards their advantages, and the technical and professional challenges they face when  using them.

Methods: The study adopted the survey approach, and used the questionnaire as a methodological tool to collect data from a deliberate sample of 100 Omani journalists working in various visual, audio, written and digital media outlets belonging to the Omani Journalists Association.

Results: The  study results showed  that the attitudes of Omani journalists towards the use of artificial intelligence applications in the news departments of Omani press institutions were generally positive, with an arithmetic mean of 4.08, and a high degree of attitude, reflecting a wide acceptance of the use of artificial intelligence applications in the Omani press. This is due to Omani journalists' awareness of the importance of keeping pace with rapid technological developments by Omani press institutions, and the benefits of employing artificial intelligence applications in producing news content.

Conclusions: The study asserts the notion that the attitudes of Omani journalists towards the use of artificial intelligence applications in news departments of Omani press institutions are consistent with the assumptions of the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology, which confirmed that people's attitudes towards accepting  their use are affected by their conviction of the usefulness of use, and the belief in its ease, which affect their intention for actual use.
