Abstract

Objectives: The main objective of this study is to identify the role of sports program pages in shaping the behaviors of players in the Iraq Stars League.

Methods: This research is descriptive in nature and utilized a survey methodology. The researchers designed and used a questionnaire tool and selected a purposive sample using a comprehensive enumeration method that included all players from the four most popular football clubs in Iraq: Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, Al-Shorta, Al-Talaba, and Al-Zawraa. The study sample consisted of 100 players, with 25 players from each club.

Results: The findings revealed that the players in the Iraq Stars League predominantly preferred watching sports programs through social media platforms, with their viewership being generally intermittent due to varying interests and life commitments. One of the main motivations for following these pages was the ease of access to program content. The players’ reliance on sports program pages for keeping up with sports events was moderate. Importantly, these pages were found to contribute positively to promoting sportsmanship among players and enhancing their overall sports culture and awareness.

Conclusions: The most notable behavioral impacts observed among the participants, which are central to this study, include facilitating discussions and dialogues with others on important sports topics, making the players more active in helping others and maintaining sportsmanship on the field, and increasing their interest in gatherings and initiatives aimed at developing the sports scene in Iraq.
