Objectives: The study aims to investigate the impact of using ChatGPT on developing self-learning skills among students in the humanities faculties at the University of Jordan.
Methods: The study employed a quasi-experimental approach. The sample consisted of 43 students from the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Jordan. Two sections were purposively selected, and their members were randomly assigned into two groups: a control group of 21 students and an experimental group of 22 students. A self-learning skills scale, developed by the researchers, was used to collect data before and after the implementation of ChatGPT.
Results: The findings revealed that the use of ChatGPT led to a 21% improvement in self-learning skills among students in the experimental group, compared to those in the control group who did not use the application.
Conclusions: In light of the results, the study recommends adopting the use of ChatGPT, which is based on artificial intelligence, in teaching due to its positive impact on the learning process and its effectiveness in developing self-learning skills among humanities students at the University of Jordan.
