Abstract

Objectives: The research aims to investigate the accuracy of the term: "Tafseer Fundamentals" and its suitability to Quranic Interpretation.

Methods: The nature of the research demanded an inductive descriptive method to gather the scientific information from appropriate resources, interpret, organize, and present it accordingly. The Historical method was also used to study the history and development of Quranic Interpretation. The analytical method was employed to closely examine and evaluate before drawing conclusions.

Results: Through studying the functional role of Quranic Interpretation, it concluded that the term: "Tafsir Fundamentals" is unsuitable for the Quran interpretation for several reasons illustrated in the research. Scholars in earlier centuries were not observed to have coupled the word "Fundamentals" with "Tafseer" though they did in other fields such as Islamic Jurisprudence, which reflected their awareness regarding the uniqueness of Tafseer. I recommend revisions regarding the messy use of the term: "Tafser Fundamentals" in modern times.

Conclusions: The study recommends that it is important to study scientific terminology and the suitability of a term's usage before putting into practice.
