Abstract

Objectives: This study explores grammatical cohesion mechanisms in Surah ‘Abasa, focusing on pronouns that enhance textual connectivity and eliminate ambiguity.

Methods: The study involved tracking the pronouns in this noble Surah, which played a significant and effective role in linking its Qur’anic verses, assisting the recipient in interpreting and clarifying Qur’anic contexts.

Results: The absent pronouns proved to be the strongest and most effective referential elements in maintaining the cohesion of the Qur’anic text in this Surah, ensuring the unity of its parts and the interconnection of its verses. This, in turn, achieved both syntactic and conceptual cohesion. The diversity of these pronouns played a clear role in engaging the recipient, stimulating curiosity, and encouraging them to identify the referent, thus eliminating monotony and preventing boredom.

Conclusion: The previous findings suggest that pronoun-based reference—of various types—played a major role in sentence connectivity, leading to the cohesion of Qur’anic verses in this noble Surah, the unity of its components, the interrelation of its sections, the clarification of its objectives, and the effective communication of its meanings to the recipient with clarity and precision.
