اعتنى هذا البحث بالحديث عن الإمامين العمّاني والقسطلاني، وعن كتابيهما ومنهج كل منهما فيه بشكل موجز، وركّز على تعقّبات الإمام القسطلاّني في كتابه لطائف الإشارات لفنون القراءات على الإمام العمّاني في كتابه المرشد في الوقف والابتداء، وهدف البحث إلى جمع هذه التعقبات، ودراستها دراسة وافية مقارنة بأقوال الأئمة الآخرين في كتب التفسير بشكل عام، وكتب الوقف والابتداء بشكل خاص، وحاول التوصل إلى مصطلحات ومنهج الإمام القسطلاني في تعقباته، ومعرفة القيمة العلمية لها. اتخذ الباحث المنهج الاستقرائي في جمع هذه التعقبات، والمنهج التحليلي في دراستها ومناقشتها. كما استخدمت الدراسة ذكر النصوص القرآنية التي يُستدل بها وذكر رقم الآية واسم السورة في المتن. وتوصلت الدراسة الى عدة نتائج ومنها: عناية العلماء بالتعقّبات والاستدراكات على من سبقهم، وحرصهم على مناقشة المسائل وتعليلها، حَرِص الإمام القسطلاّني على الأدب في النّقد، وتنوعت صيغ التعقب في كتابه فبعضها صريحة وواضحة في التعقب، والاخرى غير صريحة وغير مباشرة. أكدت الدراسة الحاجة الماسّة لإعادة تحقيق كتاب المُرشد للإمام العمّاني، فقد وقفت على جملة من الأخطاء الطباعية والعلمية فيه.
