The Efficiency of a Training Program Based on Dramatic Activities in the Development of Social Skills among Students of Drama and Theater in Education Course

This study aims at investigating the effectiveness of a training program based on drama activities in improving social skills among the students of Drama and Theater in Education course. The sample consisted of (22) male and female students who were divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group with an average of (11) students per group. The training program comprised nine training sessions designed to develop students' social skills which were delivered in three weeks, with three separate sessions per week. An instrument which was developed to assess students' social skills included (54) items that were distributed on five subscales. The instrument was applied on both groups twice, prior to the study and after it. The results revealed that the training program based on drama activities was effective in developing students' social skills. There were significant statistical differences in the program effectiveness according to gender in favor of female students. The researchers recommended the necessity of preparing training programs based on dramatic activities by following dramatic activities other than acting and applying them to other age groups.
