Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to examine the effectiveness of a rational emotive behavioral counseling program in reducing feelings of loss and future anxiety among a sample of Sudanese mothers, in light of the 2024 Sudan War.

Methods: To achieve the objectives of the study, a ‘Feelings of Loss’ scale and a ‘Future Anxiety’ scale were used. In addition, a rational emotive behavioral counseling program was designed to reduce feelings of loss and future anxiety among the study sample, consisting of (30) mothers residing in the city of Hail. The latter were distributed equally in two groups; a control group that did not undergo the rational emotive behavioral therapy program, and an experimental group that was subjected to the program.

Results: The results showed that the level of feelings of loss among mothers was moderate, while the level of future anxiety was high. After the intervention, results showed that there were differences in the domains of the two adopted scales and the scale as a whole between the experimental and control groups, in favor of the experimental group. This indicates that the counseling program contributed to reducing feelings of loss and future anxiety among mothers residing in Hail city.

Conclusions: The study recommends introducing more counseling programs to reduce the psychological, personal, social and behavioral problems which Sudanese mothers may face.
