Objectives: This study aims to reveal the effectiveness of an educational program based on phonological and morphological awareness in improving the reading skills of Third Graders in Jordan.
Methods: This study followed the Quasi-Experimental Approach, a pre-post design for two unequal groups and the researchers applied a special assessment tool for reading, approved by the Ministry of Education in Jordan. The sample of the study consisted of (60) male and female students chosen from a school affiliated of the Education Directorate of Ajloun. They were divided randomly into control and experimental groups. Each group consisted of (30) male and female students.
Results: The results of this study showed that there are statistically significant differences as follows: First, in the reading skills attributed to the teaching method in favor of the experimental group. Second, in the reading skills due to gender variable in favor of females. Third, in the reading skills due to the interaction between the teaching method and gender in favor of females.
Conclusions: The study recommended planning for Arabic language programs with activities and exercises based on phonemic and morphological awareness skills, and holding training workshops that deal with the educational program based on phonemic and morphological awareness for Arabic language teachers.
