Objectives: This study focuses on addressing one of the styles of semantics, namely the restrictive style (Restrictive), through research and analysis within the contexts of the Makkan Surah Fussilat. It explores two methods, namely limitation (Innama) and exception after negation to identify the rhetorical purposes of this expression according to the nature of semantics and contextual references. The aim is to contribute a new rhetorical study to the Arabic language library. This is an excerpt from a larger study titled The Restrictive Style in the Surahs of Ha Mim: A Contextual Study.
Methods: This study adopts both inductive and deductive approaches by sequentially tracing the occurrence of restrictive sentences (Restrictive) in the surah under investigation. It then analyzes these sentences in their specific contexts to uncover their rhetorical significances within the text.
Results: The study concluded that when one of the two methods of the restrictive style is used in Surah Fussilat, it is employed in such a way that the expression could not be conveyed using the other method. This commitment to the sanctity of the text is followed by the application of these structures to the semantic principles of the restrictive style as established by scholars of rhetoric and theology.
Conclusion: The study of Quranic structures is considered one of the most significant avenues for understanding the rhetorical inimitability of the Quran. This is achieved by examining the unique characteristics of these structures and the subtle meanings they convey.
