Abstract

Objectives: The study investigates the challenges of E-learning faced by teachers and supervisors of scientific subjects during the COVID-19 pandemic, and explores the methods employed to overcome these challenges in Jerusalem schools.

Methods: A qualitative methodology was adopted, and data was collected through interviews. Purposive sampling was used, including (14) educators, (11) teachers, and (3) supervisors.

Results: The research findings indicate several challenges faced by teachers and supervisors of scientific subjects at different levels. At the teachers' level, there is a lack of proficiency and skills in using E-learning tools. On an institutional level, some educational institutions lack a clear and specific educational system for E-learning implementation. Additionally, schoolbooks are not designed for online study, and there is a scarcity of teaching and learning resources. Furthermore, students have limited knowledge and skills in using E-learning tools, and their focus and motivation for education are negatively impacted by social media. The study also identifies a set of mechanisms and methods used to address these challenges, which includes enrolling teachers in training courses organized by the Ministry of Education, providing material and moral support to both teachers and students, and utilizing various educational resources.

Conclusions: The study underscores the pressing need to raise awareness among teachers, parents, and students about the importance of E-learning and to train teachers in online teaching methods.
