Objectives: The present study aimed to reveal the predictive power of study habits for problem-solving skills among upper basic stage students by measuring the levels of both study habits and problem-solving skills, identifying the most common study habits among students, and determining which habits contribute the most to predicting problem-solving skills.
Methods: The study adopted the descriptive correlational and predictive approach. To collect data, the Study Habits Scale developed by Al-Shalwi (2024) was used, along with a Problem-Solving Skills Scale developed and validated psychometrically for this study. The instruments were administered to a sample of 700 male and female students selected using a convenience sampling method.
Results: The results indicated that the habit of linking information was the most common study habit, while organizing study sessions ranked last among study habits. The findings also showed that the overall level of both study habits and problem-solving skills was moderate. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the habits of retrieval and persistence in acquiring knowledge contributed significantly to predicting problem-solving skills, explaining 8.7% of the variance.
Conclusions:. The study recommended training upper basic stage teachers to develop effective study habits among students through training and guidance programs that reinforce these habits. It also recommended incorporating topics and activities in school curricula that encourage students to practice problem-solving skills in diverse educational settings.
