Population Opportunity in Jordan and University Students' Perceptions of its Concept and Consequences

Objectives: The study aims to reveal the population opportunity indicators in Jordan and the population projections associated with them. In addition, it seeks to analyze the perceptions of the University of Jordan students toward the concept of population opportunity and its consequences.
Methods: The study relied on the descriptive and analytical statistical approach to analyze the data obtained from the study instrument (questionnaire), which was distributed to a convenience sample of (1141) students at the University of Jordan students using descriptive statistics such as frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations as well as Pearson Correlation, Multiple Analysis of Variance (MANOVA), and Scheff'e Test by the SPSS program.
Results: The results of the study indicate that Jordan is experiencing a population opportunity phase, which is projected to peak by 2040 according to adopted scenarios. Important demographic transformations have occurred in Jordan, manifested by a decline in birth rates and an increase in the number of young people in the working-age group (15-64 years). The study also shows a high level of awareness among University of Jordan students regarding the concept of population opportunity, especially in terms of the increase in the population size of the workforce, and a moderate level of awareness regarding the other elements that constitute the concept.
Conclusion: The study recommends conducting further research focusing on employment opportunities, labor market prospects, and their alignment with the working-age population, as well as strategies for utilizing population opportunity and avoiding its wastage.
