Abstract

Objectives: The aim of this study is to assess the emotional empathy level and its relationship with the professional self among a sample of educational counselors in Amman.

Methods: The study adopted a descriptive correlational approach. To achieve the study's objectives, an emotional empathy scale and a professional self-scale were developed as tools for data collection and were applied to the sample after verifying their validity and reliability. The study population consisted of all educational counselors in public schools in Amman, and the sample consisted of 164 randomly selected male and female counselors. Three levels were utilized to classify the emotional empathy and professional self-levels of the sample, namely (1-2.33) low, (2.34-3.66) moderate, and (3.67-5) high.

Results: The study's findings revealed an average emotional empathy level of (3.8 ± 0.43) in the sample, indicating a high level of emotional empathy among the counselors. The average professional self-level was also high at (3.91), with a relevant standard deviation of (0.96). A statistically significant positive correlation between emotional empathy and professional self was observed  (p=0.04).

Conclusion: The study recommends conducting further descriptive studies on the professional problems and needs of counselors. Additionally, it recommends conducting further research on other variables related to this group.
