Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to reveal the nature of Abu Hafs al-Hawzani’s letter to al-Mu’tadid ibn Abbad, and to explore the stylistic creativity contained in the message. It also aimed to shed light on the elements of literary textual consistency and highlight the prose literary text interspersed with poetry that had never been addressed by other researchers before. The study also aimed to link the Arab-Andalusian heritage with critical tools and concepts of a modern nature through artistic study.

Methods: The current study followed the descriptive analytical method, which contributed to linking the relationships between the segments of the text and interpreting and analyzing them based on the main intellectual issue that took place within this letter.

Results: The study revealed several results, the most prominent of which were deducing the most important ideas around which the text’s prose aspects and poetic pieces revolved, most notably the accuracy in describing war, the call to jihad, the creativity of the beginning and conclusion, the intellectual building of the thematic unity among the different parts of the text. The study also indicated the significance of combining poetry and prose together and their role in creating the components of the message as a literary piece.

Conclusion: The study revealed the creativity of al-Hawzani  in utilizing the prose and poetry to serve the cultural patterns of the context of the text. It also showed the extent to which the inter-textually contributes to enriching the letter, upgrading its level and preserving the unity among the components of the text. Thus, it could be clearly concluded that the letter was written precisely with sequential ideas from the beginning till conclusion.
