Objectives: The research aims to study the common Semitic and the common comparative verbal Semitic in modern semantic studies to investigate the differences in the use of these two terms in comparative studies.
Methods: The researcher followed a comparative, historical, and descriptive approach in her research, as these methods are fundamental in modern linguistic studies. No other method can dispense with the historical and descriptive approach, given the ongoing evolution in linguistic conditions, whether synchronic or diachronic. Therefore, the work in comparative methodology relies on the historical and descriptive approach.
Results: Some researchers have confused between the terms common Semitic and the common comparative verbal Semitic in comparative semantic studies. The research has demonstrated the distinctions in their usage.
Conclusions: The agreement of words both phonetically and semantically in Semitic languages is classified under the phenomenon of common Semitic. However, their agreement phonetically with differences in meaning falls under comparative common Semitic.
