Abstract

Objectives: The study aimed mainly to address one of the intellectual and political issues that took on an important political, religious and research dimension as it examines the issue of the state problem in Islamic political thought, and to determine the vision of Islamic currents and their proposals about the concept of the state.

Methods: The study relied on the historical analytical approach, in explaining the justifications for the emergence of the state in Islamic political thought, and then analyzing the problematic aspects of contemporary Islamic political thought, and finally examining the vision of the Islamic currents and their proposals on the issue of the state.

Results:. The study concluded that there is no unified position of Islamic trends on the issue of the state in contemporary Islamic thought. The theoretical efforts of Islamic political thought seeking to build a theory of caliphate, within the Islamic political field, all fell within the framework of the dispute that existed over the issue of authority. Thus, ignoring the original issue, which is the state that was supposed to work on theorizing about it, and perhaps Ibn Khaldun is the only thinker who realized this fact.

Conclusions: The study recommends working to rebuild contemporary Islamic political discourse in cognitive ways by developing the theoretical scientific basis, practicing criticism and review of this thought, and working to combine the contributions of political thought streams, and employing them to reach a concept and mechanisms for consensual application of the state’s crisis.
