The Representation of Arabic Idafa Constructions in Turkish Linguistic Usage: An Analytical Study

Abstract

Objectives: This research examines the influence of Arabic on Turkish, specifically in the structure of idafa (genitive constructions). It aims to identify these structures, trace them to their Arabic origins, and analyze their meanings and implications.

Methods: The study employs a descriptive analytical approach, analyzing Turkish texts to identify idafa structures. The Turkish language dictionary was consulted to verify the origins of Arabic-Turkish structures, including those whose Arabic roots were not explicitly documented.

Results: The research found that many idafa structures in Turkish have Arabic origins but have undergone grammatical and semantic modifications due to Turkish linguistic influences. These changes include the addition of suffixes and shifts in meaning.

Conclusions: The study concluded that Arabic idafa structures in Turkish exceed those recorded in dictionaries, which primarily trace words to their origins but do not document them as structured phrases. Additionally, Turkish, with its simpler grammatical system, has effectively integrated Arabic words. The interaction between Arabic and Turkish remains a rich field for further linguistic research.
