Objectives: This study explores Mahmoud Darwish's poetic experience, characterized by innovative use of poetic tools and techniques.
Methods: The study adopts an inductive analytical approach to reveal the aesthetics of the dramatic structure used in Darwish’s poetry, particularly in his “Sarhan Drinks Coffee in the Cafeteria.” The study clarifies the concept of drama and dramatic poetry and highlights the significance of the dramatic structure and its most important elements as manifested in free verse, with particular attention to Darwish's poetry.
Results: The study finds that the elements of drama such as character, conflict, dialogue, irony, and narration, and their artistic representation in the poetic text, significantly impact the construction of the text. It traces the development of Darwish's experience as reflected in his poetry, demonstrating his ability to innovate new poetic tools in his later works that showcase a high level of artistic maturity.
Conclusion: The study concludes that the incorporation of dramatic elements is one of the most significant transformations observed in free verse. This shift highlights the contemporary poet’s relentless search for new tools to express his experience which became increasingly complex along with the successive changes and developments in his life.
