Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to shed light on the quadrilateral verbs, both simple and augmented, and their various forms in the poetry of Az-Ziddeen Al-Munasira. It seeks to analyze these verbs in light of colloquial and classical Arabic to determine how closely these forms align with or diverge from classical Arabic.

Methods: The study employs a descriptive-analytical approach to examine how Al-Munasira uses and integrates quadrilateral verbs in constructing his poetic text, focusing on the variation between colloquial and classical forms. The usages and examples of these verbs are then analyzed according to linguistic dictionaries and Arabic morphological rules.

Results: The study revealed that both simple quadrilateral verbs and their seven extensions and augmentations are prominent in Al-Munasira's poetry. The poet often relied on them due to their contribution to the poetic quality of his work. Furthermore, the study showed that many quadrilateral verbs that appear colloquial in Al-Munasira's poetry are, in fact, derived from classical Arabic and have roots in Arabic lexicons.

Conclusion: The study concluded that quadrilateral verbs in their primary form ("fa'lala") and their augmented variations require further research to clarify their forms and complexities, particularly regarding their relationship to colloquial and classical Arabic. Additionally, it was concluded that judgments about whether a usage is colloquial or non-standard require careful analysis, considering each term's occurrence in Arabic language and dictionaries, as well as general linguistic rules established by grammarians and linguistic academies.
