يتناول البحث موضوع الواقعية المفرطة وفلسفة المتناقضات في أعمال الفنان الامريكي المعاصر ريتشارد إستس، ويهدف الى تعرُّف ملامح المتناقضات وطبيعتها في أعماله وودلالاتها الرمزية والفلسفية والقضايا المعاصرة المرتبطة بها. ولتحقيق فهم أوسع لهذا الاتجاه فقد خُصص محورا مستقلًا لدراسة تاريخ الاتجاه الواقعي في الفن منذ ظهور واقعية القرن التاسع عشر ومرورا بالواقعية الاشتراكية ووصولًا إلى لواقعية المفرطة كما تعرف البحث فلسفة الواقعية المفرطة في اختيار موضوعاتها، وتعرُّف الوسائل المستخدمة كالفوتوغرافيا ووسائل التكبير المختلفة لانتاج أعمالها. أما المحور الثاني فقد عرض تجربة الفنان ريتشارد استس وتطورها وأهم الموضوعات والقضايا التي تعرض لها والخصائص الاسلوبية لديه. أما المحور الثالث فقد خصص لمناقشة مجموعة من العينات المختارة والخروج بمجموعة من النتائج من أهمها: اتسمت أعمال إستس بنكهة عدمية، حيث إستتر خلف واقعية المعالجة المفرطة تلميحا بزيادة النزعة المادية في العالم المعاصر وضعف الروابط الانسانية وتضاؤل حميمية العلاقات بين الانسان والمجتمع وبين الانسان والطبيعة. الكلمات المفتاحية:الواقعية المفرطة، ريتشارد إستس، المتناقضات.
