يُعدّ الاهتمام بالمكان وقضاياه في الرّواية أمرًا موصولًا بتحليل الخطاب السرديّ بوصفه نظامًا تلفظيًّا يدلّ على الحكاية، دلالة تتجاوز الإخبار إلى الإضمار. وآية ذلك أن تجاوز الوظيفة الحكائيّة للمكان في الرواية، عبر سياق من التعارضات والتضادات مع ذاته التي يفرزها التوظيف المخصوص للمكان في علاقاته المنسجمة مع العناصر الأخرى، يكشف عن قيمة ذلك التعارض فيما يُسميه يوري لوتمان بالتقاطب. والتقاطب المكانيّ مفهوم يتخذ من التّعارض نهجًا للتكامل، ولا يمكن أن تُدرك قيم التقاطب بمعزل عن الزمان والشخصيات والأحداث. فالمكان إذا ارتقى في الخطاب السرديّ إلى مستوى التوظيف فإنه يُبنى على سياقات تضاديّة دلاليّة في بعدها السيميائيّ الأوليّ تنبئ بفيض من دلالات الفضاء الروائي؛ النصيّة والجغرافيّة والمرجعيّة والوظيفيّة. تتخذ الدراسة من المدوّنة الروائيّة للروائيّ الأردنيّ جمال أبو حمدان (1944-2015) مجالًا للبحث والتطبيق لاستظهار المكان في رواياته عبر مدخلين؛ أنماط المكان، وتقاطبات المكان، في سياق من المقاربة السرديّة السيميائية تعين على معالجة إشكاليّة الدراسة.
