The Bereavement: Rhetoric of Argumentation in the Elegies of Hamasat Abi Tammam

Objectives: this study tries hard to investigate the eloquence of Al-Argument in the poems of lamentation, and it has taken Abu Tammam’s enthusiasm as a material for study. The researcher chose three elegies from them, the first is the elegy of Umm al-Sulaik in the lamentation of her son al-Sulaka, the second is the elegy of Abi Kherash in the elegy of his brother Orwa, and the third is the elegy of al-Rabi` bin Ziyad in the elegy of Malik bin Zuhair.
Methods: The study used the descriptive method that wants to read the texts referred to above, and analyze them in a rhetorical argument. The study revealed the meaning of pilgrimage and its relationship to rhetoric, and examined the various mechanisms of pilgrimage, linking consideration to application, as much as it was able to do so.
Results: The study concluded that poetry is an appropriate material for argumentative research, and that lamentation is a suitable environment for contemplation, research and contemplation, in order to contemplate its effective argumentative contents, after applying argumentative attention to the selected poetic texts.
Conclusions: The study recommends the necessity of continuing the research in Argument; It is still suitable for study and reflection, especially in poetic discourse.
