Nostalgia and Homesickness in Abu Al-Fath Al-Tunisi’s “Nooniyah:” A Semantic Content Analysis

Objectives: This study seeks to analyze “Nooniyah,” a poem by Abu Al-Fath Al-Tunisi, to pinpoint images of nostalgia and homesickness in the poetry of Moroccan nomads. It also highlights how nostalgia manifests itself in poetic images and semantic features.
Methods: The study uses a descriptive, analytical approach. It explains the poet’s inspiration for writing the poem and reveals the circumstances and factors that influenced the composition of Al-Tunisi’s poem. Moreover, the study examines the poem’s most prominent stylistic features.
Results: The study shows that the poem depicts the expatriate poet’s feelings of nostalgia and homesickness, which are reflected in the poem’s word choice. In addition, it highlights the impact of nature on his suffering and sad feelings upon his expatriation. It also points out the significance of the semantic structure in expressing a state of longing and belonging.
Conclusions Nostalgia and homesickness prevail in the poetry of Abu Al-Fath Al-Tunisia due to his expatriation. This experience necessitated certain semantic features and poetic images that are associated with the poet’s emotions and homeland.
