Abstract

Objectives: To measure the level of influence of the determinants of electoral behavior (electoral systems, candidate characteristics, and economic and social determinants) affecting the voting behavior of the Jordanian voter in the Jordanian parliamentary elections during the period (2013-2020).

Methodology: In answering its questions, the study relied on the systematic analysis approach and the analytical statistical approach. The study population consisted of members of Jordanian society who are entitled to exercise the right to vote. A sample of community members was randomly selected (400) people, and the number of questionnaires subject to analysis was Statistician (386) questionnaire.

Results: There is an impact of the determinants (electoral systems, candidate characteristics, economic determinants, and social determinants) on the voting behavior of the Jordanian voter in the Jordanian parliamentary elections during the period (2013-2020), and that the most influential determinants of voting behavior on the voter in the parliamentary elections were social relations. Economic factors, then the characteristics of the candidate, and that the most common type of participation in the Jordanian parliamentary elections in 2020 is following the news of the candidates’ electoral campaigns (45.9%), then participating in an election campaign for one of the candidates (21.5%), and in the third degree, attending an election rally for a candidate (8.3%).

Conclusion: The study recommends working to reduce the impact of tribal and economic variables on voter behavior in parliamentary elections, and focusing on educating citizens about the importance of studying candidates’ electoral programs.
