Abstract

Objectives: The present study aims at identifying the effectiveness of parental participation in the achievement of mathematics and in improving the level of mental health of students with learning difficulties in resource rooms in Jordan.

Methods: To achieve the objectives of the study, a quasi-experimental methodology was used. The study sample consisted of (60) male and female students with learning difficulties enrolled in the resource rooms in the third, fourth and fifth grades. The study subjects were divided into two symmetrical groups, one experimental and the other control. Two tests were applied to both groups: one in mathematics and the other in mental health as pre-tests. The parents of the experimental group underwent a parental participation program for an entire semester, while the parents of the control group did not. Then the math and mental health tests were re-applied as post-tests.

Results: The results indicated that there are statistically significant differences between the experimental and control groups in favor of the experimental group, which indicates the feasibility of parents’ participation in mathematics achievement and improving their level of mental health.

Conclusions: The study recommends supporting parent participation in their children's educational programs.
