Psychological Stress and its Relationship to Skill and Cognitive Achievement in Gymnastics among Students of the Department of Physical Education at Al Al-Bayt University

Abstract

The study aims to identify the level of the psychological stress faced by students of the Department of Physical Education and the relationship between the stress and the skill and cognitive achievement in gymnastics among students of the Department of Physical Education at Al Al-Bayt University. The study was conducted on a sample of (38) students of gymnastics who were intentionally selected. The researcher used a descriptive methodology as well as a questionnaire as a tool for collecting data; the questionnaire consisted of four fields: academic, family, social and economic stress. The study showed that there was stress in four areas The results also showed that stress affected the acquisition of skills only in gymnastics while there was no impact on cognitive achievement. The researcher recommends the need for holding workshops to reduce psychological stress by students and the need for a specialist and a psychologist in the School of Physical Education at Al Al-Bayt University.
